Which of the following is NOT a function of proteins? A. store and transmit genetic information B. help to fight disease C. control the rate of reactions D. move substances into or out of cells
There are six (6) primary function of proteins and A. Store and transmit genetic information is not one of them. The six primary functions are: 1) Repairs and Maintenance - Hair, eyes, skin, muscles and organs are all protein made thus, proteins are needed for its repair and maintenance. 2) Energy - Being a major source of energy, protein is needed. The more excess protein thereis the more it generates energy. 3) Hormones - Insulin and Secretin are protein hormone that helps the body in regulating some of its functions. 4) Enzymes - These are proteins that helps increase the rate of chemical reactions happening inside the body. 5) Transportation and Storage of Molecules - Hemoglobin is a protein used to transport oxygen throughout the body. Ferritin is an example of protein that is used for storing a certain molecule. Ferritin combines with iron to be stored in the liver. 6) Antibodies - Proteins form antibodies that help prevent illnesses, diseases, and infections. Proteins assist the immune system cells in identifying and destroying antigens.
