What advantages did farmers have by planting their crops in even rows ?

It was easier to take them out. The farmer wouldn't have to walk for some time and pick out a crop again and again. Also, when watering them they wouldn't have to walk, too. The farmer would use less energy and it would be easy to just take them out or just turn around to water the next crop.
