Given: Rectangle shape. Length is 3 feet longer than its width Width is unknown let it be x. Perimeter is 26 feet Perimeter = 2Length + 2Width 26 ft = 2(x+3) + 2x 26 ft = 2x + 6 + 2x 26 ft = 4x +6 26 ft - 6 = 4x 20 ft = 4x 20 ft / 4 = x 5 ft = x The width is 5 feet. Length is 3 ft longer than the width. Thus, it is 8 feet. To check: perimeter = 2L + 2W 26 ft = 2(8ft) + 2(5ft) 26 ft = 16 ft + 10ft 26 ft = 26 ft
