Explain how the U.S. acquired Alaska and Hawaii

The U.S. bought Alaska from Russia in 1867 for $7,200,000. Russia was afraid that Britain would take it if war broke out between them. It became a state in 1959. Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. in 1900 as U.S. Territory. We were using it as a naval base when the attack known as Pearl Harbor happened. It became a state in 1959.
